Analyze Georgia’s participation in WWI and the Great Depression. Describe Georgia’s contributions to World War I. Describe Georgia’s contributions to World War I. Explain economic factors that resulted in the Great Depression. Success Criteria I can identify the ways individuals, groups, and events attempted to shape the New South. I can analyze how rights were denied to African Americans or Blacks. I can explain the roles of Booker T. Washington, W.E.B. DuBois, and Alonzo Herndon in advancement of the rights of African Americans or Blacks in the New South Era. I can examine anti-Semitism and the resistance to racial equality exemplified in the Leo Frank case. I can explain Georgia’s contributions to WWI and the economic factors that resulted in the Great Depression. I can describe important events such as the Spanish Flu outbreak in Georgia, the effects of the war in Georgia, the draft, as well as Georgia’s many military training camps. I can describe the life of teen soldiers during World War I. I can explain how the boll weevil, drought, bank failures, reduction in purchasing, and overproduction of agricultural products resulted in the Great Depression in Georgia. Activity or Assignment with Text/Links The students will take a test on the New South Era. Students will be taking a field trip to the high school today! If time permits students will go to Google Classroom to complete a deeper dive into WWI and the Great Depression. The students will use their textbooks to read specific pages to find information. They will complete a notes activity. After each topic, the teacher will present information on Slides about each of the topics listed above in the Success Criteria. The students will read the Achieve 3000 article, “Remembering World War I”. They will complete the first five tabs of the article. The students will use Google Classroom (Chromebooks) to access an interactive activity (located in Google Classroom) where they will read to answer questions and complete summarizing activities that follow each subtopic (as listed in the success criteria). *Lesson will continue Monday!
