Success Criteria Describe the purpose and economic impact of the Bell Bomber Plant, military bases, and the Savannah and Brunswick shipyards. Explain the economic and military contributions of Richard Russsell and Carl Vinson. Describe the Lend-Lease Act and the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Evaluate the purpose and economic impact of the Bell Bomber Plant, military bases, and the Savannah and Brunswick shipyards. Explain the economic and military contributions of Richard Russell and Carl Vinson. I know that I have it when I can describe how the boll weevil, Agricultural Adjustment Act, better farm equipment, and better fertilizers led to a population shift. I know that I have it when I can describe the contributions and accomplishments of William Hartsfield and Ivan Allen, including their impact on civil rights and Atlanta’s growth. Activity or Assignment with Text/Links The students will read passages about the Bell Bomber Plant, military bases, and the Savannah and Brunswick shipyards. Then, they will describe the purpose and economic impact of each. The teacher will use a slide presentation to review/teach each section. The students will complete an activity which requires them to watch a video and create an advertisement for the shipyard. *Ms. Fulks will use 30 minutes of class for HS Boost. Students will use textbook (pp. 440, 441) “Richard B. Russell” and “Carl Vinson” to answer the comprehension questions on their worksheet. The teacher will use a slide presentation to teach about Richard B. Russell and Carl Vinson. Along the way we will discuss the material as it is being presented. *Quiz tomorrow Students will complete a review activity for their quiz by writing a summary/story of what they have learned in this unit thus far. Students will be taking the Georgia in World War II / Quiz #1 individually in class today. The students will be given pictures. They will then use those pictures to make predictions about what caused a population shift within Georgia. The teacher will guide the students through a slide presentation. The students will take cloze notes. Video: The History and Future of Georgia’s Farms. The students will answer questions related to the topic. The teacher will guide the students through a slide presentation about William Hartsfield and Ivan Allen Jr. The students will read a passage about William Hartsfield and complete a comprehension activity. The teacher will follow that up with direct instruction and guided practice. The process will be repeated to learn about Allen Ivan, Jr. Create a Venn-diagram to compare/contrast William Hartsfield and Ivan Allen, Jr.
