Activity or Assignment with Text/Links The teacher will use slides to teach the material. The students will highlight important aspects of their notes (provided). The students will then complete a trading card activity (embedded in the notes) to demonstrate an understanding of the material. The teacher will use slides to teach the material. The students will highlight the provided notes as needed. After the presentation, the students will contrast the reasons for exploration between the Spanish and British. Students will have a quiz over the Mississippian Indians, Hernando de Soto, and Spanish and British exploration on Friday! Explain / review the expectations for Achieve 3000. Introduce the article, “Indigenous Peoples’Day Steps Out”, connecting the material to what we learned about colonization in Georgia. Discuss the Before Reading Poll and guide the students to the article. The students will read the article, complete the activity, do the after reading poll, and complete the thought question. *Segment will start with a quiz over SS8H1. Students will use textbook (p.81) Setting the Stage to answer the first question on the worksheet. Students will then use the information on the worksheet and a teacher led slide presentation to complete the worksheet.
