Activity or Assignment with Text/Links

Students will open their textbook to “The Branches of Government / The Legislative Branch” on textbook page #500. We will read over this information and answer questions (1-3) together on their worksheet.


I will then give them a brief slide presentation about the similarities and differences for the qualifications for members of the General Assembly and its role as the law making body of Georgia. They will use this presentation and the teacher notes to answer question (4) on their own. We will discuss their answers in class!


The students will use their teacher notes and a slide presentation to complete the rest of this assignment about the purpose of the committee system, the process for making laws, how the state government is funded, and how spending decisions are made.


Government worksheets will be collected and graded, and students will take a quiz over this material Wednesday!

Students will open their textbook to “The Judicial Branch” on textbook (pp. 501-503). We will read over this information and answer questions (1-5) together on their worksheet.


I will then give them a brief slide presentation about how judges from different courts are selected in Georgia. They will use this presentation and the teacher notes to answer question (6) on their own. We will discuss their answers in class!


The students will use their teacher notes and a slide presentation to complete the rest of this assignment about how the judicial branch interprets the laws of Georgia and administers justice in our legal system.

Explain that we will continue our government unit. Today, we will learn about Georgia’s juvenile court system. Give a paper providing scenarios of unruly and delinquent behavior. The students will collaborate to hypothesize. 


The teacher will teach unruly v. delinquent behavior using a slide presentation. The students will highlight important information on  the provided notes. The teacher will then teach the rights of juveniles and the steps followed when a juvenile is taken into custody.


The teacher will guide the students in readdressing the introduction activity (scenarios). 


The students will use a sheet of scenarios to apply what they have learned. They will then create a Venn-diagram comparing the steps taken when an adult is arrested to when a juvenile is taken into custody. 


The students will complete an activity sheet where they will read to find information. The teacher will lead the students through a slide presentation to teach the material. Notes provided.
