Unit/Session: Chapter 8 Health 

Date of Instruction:  12/2-12/9

  • I can identify the types of drugs and the reasons for using them.

  • I can explain how drugs can affect my body and mind.

  • I can explain how cigarette smoking can affect my overall health.

  • I can explain how alcohol can affect my overall health.

  • I can identify illegal drugs and their impact on my overall health.

  • I can list ways that i can avoid drugs, alcohol, and tobacco by not giving in to peer pressure.


Success Criteria: 


  • I know I have it when I can identify different drugs and the reasons for their use.

  • I know I have it when I can explain how tobacco, alcohol, and illegal drugs can affect my body and mind.

  • I know I have it when I can explain how to avoid being pressured into taking illegal drugs, smoking, and drinking alcohol.

INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION:


  • Answer the following questions:

    • Define the term drug in your own terms.

    • List as many drugs as you can identify.

    • What are some harmful effects of cigarette smoking?


DIRECT INSTRUCTION:


  • Class discussion about the warm-up questions.   

  • Watch Video: Tackling Tobacco

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE:  


  • Start on chapter 8 outline. 

    • Partners/review as class
