Success Criteria

I know that I have it when I can explain how slavery, states’ rights, nullification, Compromise of 1850, the Georgia Platform, the Dred Scott case, Abraham Lincoln’s election in 1860, and the debate over secession in Georgia led to the Civil War.

I know that I have it when I can explain the Union blockade of Georgia’s coast, the Emancipation Proclamation, Chickamauga, Sherman’s Atlanta Campaign, Sherman’s March to the Sea, and Andersonville.

Activity or Assignment with Text/Links

The students will be provided with a notes activity. They will receive direct instruction about that topic using Slides. They will answer comprehension questions.

The students will complete a notes activity that also requires them to read excerpts from the textbook (p. 231-254). It will also include them receiving  direct instruction about that topic using Slides with summarizing activities taking place throughout the lesson.


*Continued from Monday!

Students will have a sheet with each of the 8 subtopics listed in the success criteria. They will be given a choice of responses/ways to demonstrate their understanding of the topic (draw a picture, write a summary, etc.).


Students will complete the five green dots in order (Ready, Read, Respond, Reflect, Write) on the following Achieve 3000 article: Remembering Dred Scott.


Students are done when the teacher examines their completed response to the Write portion of the assignment.



*Segment will begin with a quiz.


The students will read selections from the textbook and answer comprehension questions. Students will then use the teacher notes on the worksheet to continue to answer additional comprehension questions on the activity sheet.
