Activity or Assignment with Text/Links

The students will use FlipGrid to create a video of themselves acting as if they are a Native American living during the time of Spanish exploration. They will act as if they had encountered Hernando de Soto and will describe the impact of European exploration on their people. A checklist/rubric will guide the activity.

The teacher will use a slide presentation to deliver the information. The students will highlight the provided notes as needed. After the presentation, the students will contrast the reasons for exploration between the Spanish and British.

*When finished, students will be introduced to Wednesday’s activity.

The students will be given a choice between two opportunities:

  1. Create a slide presentation outlining 8 events spanning the events covered while learning this standard.

  2. Create a comic strip including five events covered while learning this standard.
