Standard/s: MLI.IP1A 

Learning Target/ Teaching Point: Students will learn a popular hispanic children’s interactive poem and important verbs.

Success Criteria: Students will tell a common poem and then use the verbs in class conversations.

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10

INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION: Do you remember learning fun finger/puppet activities (Here is the church, here is the steeple, open the doors and see all the people), and we will learn a famous interactive poem. 

DIRECT INSTRUCTION: Show students poem and go over lyrics line by line, pronouncing words clearly and  go over meanings.

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10

GUIDED PRACTICE:  Once I have gone over the song and explained the meaning of the words, students will join in speaking and translating. They will practice.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION: Students will repeat poem on their own and complete a comprehension activity on the meaning of the verbs that will be used over and over during the quarter.

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .
