NMS Daily Lesson Plan for Instruction
(Connections, Science, Social Studies, Math)
Teacher: Gainous/Walker |
Unit/Session: Ecology Biomes |
Date of Instruction: April 20, 2022 |
Standard/s: S7L4. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to examine the interdependence of organisms with one another and their environments. d. Ask questions to gather and synthesize information from multiple sources to differentiate between Earth’s major terrestrial biomes (i.e., tropical rainforest, savanna, temperate forest, desert, grassland, taiga, and tundra) and aquatic ecosystems (i.e., freshwater, estuaries, and marine). (Clarification statement: Emphasis is on the factors that influence patterns across biomes such as the climate, availability of food and water, and location.) |
Learning Target/ Teaching Point: 1.I can distinguish between earth’s terrestrial (land) and aquatic (water) biomes |
Success Criteria: research the characteristics of the earth’s major land and water biomes recall the location, climate, plant life, and animal life for each of the seven land biomes Recall distinguishing characteristics of the water biomes
|
Opening (I Do) An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson. TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10 | INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION: Science Starter Review Question * Class will make a chart using sticky notes choosing which biome they prefer to learn about. |
DIRECT INSTRUCTION: Instruction Video Introduction to biomes unit and today’s research on terrestrial biomes. Vocabulary: terrestrial, climate, aquatic |
Work Period (We Do, You Do) Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations. Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period. TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10
| GUIDED PRACTICE: Students collect information on the 7 land biomes from a prepared slide posted on Google Classroom
https://askabiologist.asu.edu/explore/Virtual-360-Biomes
|
INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION: Student log their recording on their land biomes facts chart
Early finishers are to complete the Biologist Notebook by viewing several land biomes through the Biomes Virtual 360 simulation |
Closing (We Check) Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding . TKES : 1,2,3, 4,5,6,7,8
| SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING: Biome exit ticket
Formative Assessment : Biome exit ticket |
Homework | Complete the land biomes chart |
