Standard/s:  S7L4. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to examine the interdependence of organisms with one another and their environments. 

a. Construct an explanation for the patterns of interactions observed in different ecosystems in terms of the relationships among and between organisms and abiotic components of the ecosystem. (Clarification statement: The interactions include, but are not limited to, predator-prey relationships, competition, mutualism, parasitism, and commensalism.)

Learning Target/ Teaching Point:   I can describe how organisms interact with one another in an ecosystem

Success Criteria:

-Understand the relationship between carrying capacity and limiting factors

-Describe the relationship between predator and prey

-Explain why organisms compete over resources. 

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

Explain to students how we will be playing a predator prey game today outside. Take students outside and model how the game will be played.

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE:  

Students will face off against each other with cards to determine who is the predator and prey. Once students show each other their card and determine the relationship, the predator will chase the prey to a finish line. If the prey reaches the line they escape and win and lose if they get tagged before. 

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:


Students will finish their webquest from yesterday.
