a. Develop and defend a model that categorizes organisms based on common characteristics. 

Learning Target/ Teaching Point: I can describe the six kingdoms of life.

Success Criteria: 

  • Identify and compare the six kingdoms 

  • Explain characteristics that make each kingdom unique 


Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION:

Science Starter review question  

DIRECT INSTRUCTION: 

Pull up the 6 kingdoms slideshow and review each kingdom’s characteristics. 

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE:  

Use the study guide from yesterday to review characteristics of each kingdom. 


INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

Students will complete a gimkit review going over classification questions and will then complete 30 minutes of map accelerator.  

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .
