INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION:

Science Starter: How do you know if something is living or nonliving?

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:


Introduce Biotic/Abiotic factors slideshow. Students will record notes and place them in interactive notebooks once complete. 

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE:   Review creating a t-chart on Promethean. Students will create a list of abiotic/biotic factors. 


Make connections: Can we live without abiotic factors? Are non-living things important? 

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:


Students will walk outside the classroom, observe, and will list abiotic/biotic factors they see or assume is there. 


Students will come back inside and complete the “Abiotic vs biotic factors” worksheet.
