Date of Instruction:  1/5

Standard/s: MLI.IP1A: Use basic greetings, farewells, and expressions of courtesy.

Learning Target/ Teaching Point: Students will learn common phrases of courtesy.

Success Criteria: Students will be able to say thank you, please, and you’re welcome. 

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10


INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION: Did your parents teach you to always say please when you ask for something, say thank you when someone gives you something or does something nice for you, and say you’re welcome after you have done some kind service for someone. These are simple, yet important phrases for humankind to help everyone feel better.


DIRECT INSTRUCTION: Show students word strip with “Gracias,” “Por favor,” and “De nada.”

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10

GUIDED PRACTICE:  Practice saying these phrases in different scenarios.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION: Students will turn to a partner and practice these phrases.

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .

TKES : 1,2,3, 4,5,6,7,8


SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING: Students will complete an activity sheet to help summarize these courtesy phrases, and I will circulate to check understanding.


Formative Assessment : I will present a situation and ask students which phrase is most appropriate, checking for understanding.


Homework


Practice saying “Gracias, De nada, and Por favor” at home with family.
