Learning Target/ Teaching Point: Analyze Georgia’s participation in important events that occurred from World War I through the Great Depression.

Success Criteria: I know that I have it when I can...describe Georgia’s contributions to World War I.

Opening (I Do)


INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION:


You studied World War I in the 6th grade, and touched upon it again briefly in the 7th grade. What do you remember about World War I? How did it begin? How did 32 countries get involved? Why did the United States get involved?


DIRECT INSTRUCTION: (click here for video)


The teacher will instruct the class about World War I using the textbook, comprehension questions, and slide presentation.

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)


GUIDED PRACTICE:


The teacher will use a slide presentation to teach the class about Georgia’s contributions to the American war effort in WWI. Along the way students will use the instruction and powerpoint to fill out their cloze notes.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:


Students will use textbook (pp. 351-356) to answer the nine comprehension questions on their “America and Georgia Go to War” worksheet.

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:


Describe the biggest contribution Georgia made to WWI. Explain.
