Learning Target/ Teaching Point: 

  • Identify the ways individuals, groups, and events attempted to shape the New South.

  • Analyze how rights were denied to African Americans or Blacks.

Success Criteria:  I know that I have it when I can describe how Jim Crow laws, Plessy v. Ferguson, disenfranchisement, racial violence, and the 1906 Atlanta Riot denied rights to African Americans and I can describe the ways that Henry Grady, Tom Watson, the Bourbon Triumvirate, the Populists, and the International Cotton Expositions attempted to shape the New South.

INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION:

The students will complete a review activity to prepare for today’s quiz.
