NMS Daily Lesson Plan for Instruction

(8th Grade Intro Spanish)

Unit/Session: Sports and Activities (Greetings)

Sp. 1 Sports & Activities

Date of Instruction:  1/10-14 

Standard/s: MLI.IP1A Meet and Greet, Rules and Procedures, Syllabus - Use basic greetings, farewells, and expressions of courtesy

Learning Target/ Teaching Point: Students will be able to introduce themselves, tell about themselves, hear what others are saying to them, and say goodbye.

Success Criteria: I know I’ll have it when I can say hello, tell a little about myself, understand what someone else tells me, and then can say goodbye.

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION: When you say something in your own language it goes to the head; when you say it in THEIR language, it goes to their heart. Staying in target language for 90% of time -  when you first meet someone, introduce yourself, exchange pleasantries, and then say goodbye.

DIRECT INSTRUCTION: Use gestures to go with words, wave and smile for hello, point to self when saying name, pump arms for running, etc. then waving w/sad face for goodbye. Show words on poster.

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE:  

Greetings/Saludos - Hola, Buenos días, Que tál (wave)

I am/Soy __________ (point to self and name tag)

I like/Me gusta ___________ (act out what you like w/ thumbs up or heart for I love/Me encanta) 

Adios, Chau, Hasta luego, Hasta mañana, Nos vemos

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION: Turn to distanced partner and say hello, tell them your name, tell them something you like/like to do, then say goodbye.

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING: Model “Hola, soy Dra. Perry, me gusta comida, adios” Show numbered fingers for the 4 pieces of information I am giving.


Formative Assessment: Go around room and ask everyone to quickly tell me their name and something they like
