Date of Instruction:  8/15-17

Standard/s: MLI.PIH Use sequenced information meaningfully.

MLI.INT1D Demonstrate Novice-Mid proficiency in listening, viewing and reading comprehension.

Learning Target/ Teaching Point: Students will be able to read and translate a story.

Success Criteria: Students can read and answer comprehension questions about a story.

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION: Listen to and watch the following song:

Student version

DIRECT INSTRUCTION: I will read a sentence, phrase, or word. Then students will translate it. We do this as a class until the end of the story. Go to Ch. 10 Ecuador in Voces for vocabulary and presentations.

Daily routines - Morning


Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE:  I will ask them comprehension questions all throughout the story, and I will ask them questions about themselves.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION: Students answer comprehension questions every few seconds. Students will write daily routines on a door knob holder to remind themselves to speak in Spanish when they perform a daily task. If time, they can color them.


Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING: Summarizing takes place often throughout the reading of the story.


Formative Assessment : Sometimes the students will write their own story afterwards or tell their own story.


Homework

Study flashcards of phrases and words that were difficult during the reading.
