Use common, grade-appropriate Greek or Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word (e.g., audience, auditory, audible).

Learning Target: 

6th - I will define and use the prefixes, “in-” and “un-.”  I will locate the correct multiple-meaning word.

7th - I will define the terms denotation and connotation.  I will define and correctly use the suffixes, “-able,” and “-ible.”

8th - I will define and use the term, idiom and the affixes, “graph,” and “form.”

Success Criteria: 

6th - I will demonstrate success defining words and using them correctly in sentences.

7th - I will demonstrate success by categorizing the denotations of words and by sorting words into families.

8th - I will demonstrate success by matching idioms to their meanings, and by grouping words in families to determine their meanings.

7th - Notes:  Denotation is the Dictionary Definition of a word.  Connotation is the feeling or emotion associated with a word.  A connotation may be positive, negative, or neutral.  VIDEO
