Standard/s: 

S7L3. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to explain how organisms reproduce

either sexually or asexually and transfer genetic information to determine the traits of their

offspring.

  1. Construct an explanation supported with scientific evidence of the role of genes and chromosomes in the process of inheriting a specific trait.

  2. Develop and use a model to describe how asexual reproduction can result in offspring with identical genetic information while sexual reproduction results in genetic variation.

Learning Target/ Teaching Point:

I can explain how organisms reproduce and transfer genetic information.

  • Know the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction

Science Starter : Vocabulary Question from yesterday 

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

Teacher presents information of the two types of reproduction: sexual and asexual. The end goal is for students to be able to explain how sexual and asexual reproduction affect the traits that are passed to offspring. Students take notes.

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE:  

Comparing and Contrasting Sexual and Asexual Reproduction - Students and the teacher work together to complete the graphic organizer on the two types of reproduction. 

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

If time, students can work on their Reproduction Vocabulary Practice Packet from Monday. This assignment is due on Wednesday.,
