Do a quick review of what we learned yesterday (MLK, Jr. and John Lewis).
Name some civil rights organizations! What do you know about the SNCC and the SCLC?

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:
I will lead the class in a discussion of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) using a powerpoint presentation. |

| GUIDED PRACTICE:
Students will participate in a discussion of the SNCC and SCLC while filling in the missing information on their cloze notes. |
INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:
Students will read Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (p. 456) and Southern Christian Leadership Conference (p. 454). They will use these textbook pages to answer comprehension questions (1-3) on the SNCC and SCLC worksheet.

| SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:
Students will read an article about the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and then follow the directions on the “SNCC Frame It” activity.
