Dr. Perry’s Daily Lesson Plan for Instruction (Intro to Spanish) Teacher: Dr. Stephanie L. Perry Unit/Session: Administration of Comprehensive Spanish Assessment - multiple choice, short answer Date of Instruction: 2/24 Standards covered: Alphabet Sounds Pronunciation Diacritical marks Colors Months of the year Question words Weather, seasons Telling time Days of the week Expressions of courtesy Formal & informal greetings Subject pronouns Numbers 0-31 Classroom instructions Sports & Leisure Verbs Body parts Family & Friends Geography-Hispanic world Learning Target/ Teaching Point: Students will answer questions with at least 80% accuracy. Success Criteria: [ ] Students translate vocabulary. [ ] Students sing the songs that help them acquire Spanish. [ ] Students listen 100% to spoken Spanish and answer comprehension questions. [ ] Students read stories with at least 80% comprehension. [ ] Students answer questions in Spanish and English about the story and themselves (PQA-Personal Question and Answers) with at least 80% accuracy. [ ] Students participate by completing all classwork (Do Nows/Despegues and other work) [ ] Students practice by completing all homework assignments (found on Google Classroom) Opening (I Do) An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson. TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION: We have spent the last 7 weeks listening to, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. We understand the difference between acquiring a language and learning a language. We have realistic expectations of comprehending at least 80% of what the teacher says. We have been brave to participate, knowing that it’s OK to feel stupid. We know that learning a language is intense. We know to be kind with ourselves and others. DIRECT INSTRUCTION: Teacher will lead the students in an “around the room” panorama of all the visuals, songs, etc. that have helped us acquire the language throughout the semester. VIDEO: I will be filming this tomorrow. Work Period (We Do, You Do) Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations. Describe the instructional process that will e used to engage the students in the work period. TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10 GUIDED PRACTICE: Teacher will start the students out with a song and then let them take over.Teacher will ask students to translate and show with gestures that they know the meanings of the Spanish standards above. INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION: Students have an “Everything You Need to Know in Spanish” activity packet to complete to help them practice and review their Spanish. The link is below: Closing (We Check) Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding . TKES : 1,2,3, 4,5,6,7,8 SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING: Teacher will give a 25-50 multiple choice question comprehension exam. Formative Assessment: Many types of assessments have taken place all quarter, such as translating into English, answering in Spanish, reading, and gesturing to show comprehension. Homework Students will review and re-take the test if they want to earn a higher score.
