12/6 Immune System (Disease Spread Gizmo)

Standard/s:  S7L2  Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to describe how cell structures, cells,

tissues, organs, and organ systems interact to maintain the basic needs of organisms. 

c. Construct an argument that systems of the body (Cardiovascular, Excretory, Digestive, Respiratory, Muscular, Nervous, and Immune) interact with one another to carry out life processes.

Learning Target: 
-I can describe how different organ systems interact with one another to carry out life processes.  

Success Criteria:

-I can identify function and organs within the immune system.

-Understand how the body systems work with each other as a system to keep the human body functioning. 

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

DIRECT INSTRUCTION: Video

Introduce Gizmo and have students log in through Clever. Show how to navigate through the site. Show the google classroom assignment students will need to complete.

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE: 

Introduce the Disease Population Spread Gizmo assignment. Show how to manipulate the assignment and what to do. Students will run a few trials before completing it on their own. 

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

Students will run simulations on Gizmo to observe how disease spreads throughout a population. They will complete a google doc companion worksheet on google classroom.
