Learning Target/ Teaching Point: Analyze the impact of Reconstruction on Georgia.

Success Criteria: I know that I have it when I can...explain the roles of the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments in Reconstruction. Explain the key features of the Lincoln, the Johnson, and the Congressional Reconstruction plans.

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION:


What do you know about the Amendments in the U.S. Constitution?


What do you know about the period of time following the Civil War known as Reconstruction?


DIRECT INSTRUCTION:


I will begin to introduce the three new Amendments and the three Reconstruction plans to students with a power point presentation.

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

GUIDED PRACTICE:


As I am instructing through the powerpoint slides students will pay attention, and fill-out their “Amendments and Reconstruction Cloze Notes” worksheet.


INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:


Students will begin class by opening their Social Studies textbook to the glossary (pp. 557-563), and defining the “6” vocabulary terms on the “Amendments and Reconstruction Introduction” worksheet.

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:


Throughout my instruction and at the end of class we will be discussing the Amendments and Reconstruction plans. I will also be directing questions of my own about the material to students.
