  • Explain why the Cherokee believe that they should be allowed to send a delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives.


Success Criteria: 

  • I know I have it when I can explain the history of the Cherokee in regards to the Treaty of New Echota and the Trail of Tears, and how this pertains to the Cherokee having a delegate in the U.S. House of Representatives.

INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION:


Introduce the TeenBiz article: Fulfilling a Promise


Discuss the before reading poll. Ask: Should Native Americans be allowed to send a delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives to speak for their tribes?

GUIDED PRACTICE:
