Learning Target/ Teaching Point: Explain how technological developments had an impact on Georgia’s growth.

Success Criteria: I know that I have it when I can explain the impact of the cotton gin and railroads on Georgia’s growth.

Opening (I Do)


INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION:

Explain that as we moved west over time, technology was also improving over time. Today, we begin to learn how more modern technological inventions began to change life in Georgia.

GUIDED PRACTICE:

Explain to students that they will begin a two-day independent lesson today. Students will have to read paragraphs to answer comprehension questions. They will have to use slide presentations to complete cloze notes. They will also have to watch videos to answer comprehension questions. They will need to do all of these tasks in order to complete the Technological Developments: The Cotton Gin and Railroads packet!

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

The students will use chromebooks/computers to complete an activity which requires them to research the cotton gin and railroads. They will use the Technological Developments: The Cotton Gin and Railroads packet to display their understanding of this topic. The cotton gin portion of the assignment will be completed the first day, and the railroads/ Georgia Studies Workbook portions will be completed the second day.
