NMS Daily Lesson Plan for Instruction
(Connections, Science, Social Studies, Math)
Teacher: Robert Cannon and Patrick Mickey |
Unit/Session: Unit 8 Sound - Self-Guided Notes |
Date of Instruction: 12/11/2020 |
Standard/s: S8P4f - Develop and use a model (e.g., simulations, graphs, illustrations) to predict and describe the relationships between wave properties (e.g., frequency, amplitude, and wavelength) and energy. S8P4d - Develop and use a model to compare and contrast how light and sound waves are reflected, refracted, absorbed, diffracted or transmitted through various materials. |
Learning Target/ Teaching Point: I can predict and describe the effects of changing wave properties of a sound heard, so that I can describe what happens when a sound wave interacts with different substances. |
Success Criteria: o Recall the meaning of propagate and which type of wave must have a medium to propagate. o Describe why sounds appear louder or quieter based on energy and changes in the wave. o Describe why sounds appear higher or lower pitch based on energy and changes in the wave. o Draw examples for Transmission, Absorption, Reflection, Refraction, and Diffraction |
Opening (I Do) An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson. TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10
| INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION: Review of sound traveling as vibrations. Presentation: Slide 3 |
DIRECT INSTRUCTION: Students will be directed to Google Classroom and shown how to open up the notes for this unit and how to complete the notes on their own.
Video
Notes Presentation: Slides 1 - 26 |
Work Period (We Do, You Do) Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations. Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period. TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10
| GUIDED PRACTICE: We will work together in opening up their notes Presentation and answer the first question together. |
INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION: Students will complete the notes for this unit on their own and answer the questions at the end for a grade.
|
Closing (We Check) Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding . TKES : 1,2,3, 4,5,6,7,8
| SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:
Formative Assessment : Formal formative answering of questions at the end of the notes presentation
