Success Criteria: I know I have it when I can explain the qualifications for the governor and lieutenant governor and their role in the executive branch of the state government. I can describe how the executive branch fulfills its role through state agencies that administer programs and enforce laws.

Opening (I Do)
| INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION: Explain that we will continue our government unit. Today, we will learn about Georgia’s executive branch of government.

Direct Instruction (click link for video): The students will complete an activity sheet with guided and independent practices. They will require their textbook, and a slide presentation.

Work Period (We Do, You Do)
| GUIDED PRACTICE: Students will open their textbook to “The Executive Branch” on textbook page #501. We will read over this information and answer questions (1-4) together on their worksheet.
I will then give them a brief slide presentation about the similarities and differences of the qualifications for the governor and lieutenant governor of Georgia. They will use this presentation and the teacher notes to answer question (5) on their own. We will discuss their answers in class!

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:
The students will use their teacher notes and a slide presentation to complete the rest of this assignment about how the executive branch fulfills its role through state agencies that administer programs and enforce laws.
