NMS Daily Lesson Plan for Instruction

(Connections, Science, Social Studies, Math)

Teacher: Robert Cannon and Patrick Mickey

Unit/Session: Unit 10- Wave Review and Interaction- Wave Interactions Graphic Organizer

Date of Instruction:  1/21/22

Standard/s: S8P4d S8P4e

Learning Target/ Teaching Point:

I can describe the five different outcomes that could happen when a wave interacts with an object.

Success Criteria:

  • Define transmission, refraction, reflection, absorption, and diffraction in less than three words

  • Draw what a wave will do in each type of interaction.

  • Explain how you see color based on reflection and absorption

Opening (I Do)

An engaging process for lesson introduction that is specifically planned to encourage equitable and purposeful student participation. Describe the instructional process that will be used to introduce the lesson.

TKES 1, 2, 3,4,5, 8,10

WARRIOR 5:

INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION:

DIRECT INSTRUCTION:

Students will be given the task of organizing the wave interactions using definitions, and pictures of each.

Work Period  (We Do, You Do)

Students learning by doing/demonstrating learning expectations.  Describe the instructional process that will be used to engage the students in the work period.

TKES 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7. 8,10

GUIDED PRACTICE:

We will create the foldable together, and draw the 5 pictures for each wave interaction.

Also, we will focus on the differences between how light and sound refracts differently in more dense materials.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

Students will spend the remainder of class researching at least 3 real-world examples of each wave interaction, and writing these on the back.

Closing  (We Check)

Describe the instructional process that will be used to close the lesson and check for student understanding .

TKES : 1,2,3, 4,5,6,7,8

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

Complete RACER question below the research examples.
