Success Criteria: I know that I have it when I can describe how Mary Phagan’s death led to anti-Semitism and hatred toward other groups, as well as the second incarnation of the KKK.

Opening (I Do)
| INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION: Remind students that we learned the KKK was eradicated during Reconstruction. Explain that, today, we will look at one of the events that led to their second incarnation.

Direct Instruction (click link for video): The teacher will present information about each of the topics listed above in the Success Criteria after students have an opportunity to learn about on their own through the Independent Practice detailed below.
Students will be presented with a powerpoint that they should use to organize their notes and thoughts on the information.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION: The students will use their textbooks to read specific pages to find information. They will answer comprehension questions. This will precede the guided practice and direct instruction.
