NMS Daily Lesson Plan for Instruction

(Social Studies)

Unit/Session: 7

Date of Instruction:  1/19/22

Standard/s: SS8H7d

Learning Target/ Teaching Point: Examine anti-Semitism and the resistance to racial equality exemplified in the Leo Frank case.

Success Criteria:  I know that I have it when I can describe how Mary Phagan’s death led to anti-Semitism and hatred toward other groups, as well as the second incarnation of the KKK.


Opening (I Do)


INTRODUCTION/CONNECTION:

Remind students that we learned the KKK was eradicated during Reconstruction. Explain that, today, we will look at one of the events that led to their second incarnation.


Direct Instruction (click link for video):

The teacher will present information about each of the topics listed above in the Success Criteria after students have an opportunity to learn about on their own through the Independent Practice detailed below.


Students will be presented with a powerpoint that they should use to organize their notes and thoughts on the information.

GUIDED PRACTICE:

Discuss the first item together to demonstrate the process.

INDEPENDENT/COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE/DIFFERENTIATION:

The students will use their textbooks to read specific pages to find information. They will answer comprehension questions. This will precede the guided practice and direct instruction.


One-one-one instructional opportunities.

Guide/prompt through activity.

Read aloud when needed.

SUMMARIZE/CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING:

Students will pair and share to describe the success criteria.
