Perry, Spanish 1, 4th Period-FY Assignments

Dear Students,

I'm so sorry to be out again. I will find out more this Friday when I go to the doctor about what is going on with me. In the meantime I have been told to take it very easy, which includes not working until they know something more. I will let you know when I know more.

I hope you and your families are all well. Be kind and love each other. Make the most of every day you have with your loved ones. Be happy. Do things that bring you joy. 

Attached is my "Last Month of School" assignment calendar. The only other topic I want to cover more fully before the end of the year is FOOD! because everyone likes to eat. I have included my lesson plans, along with some videos on this topic. If you go to VOCES with the dancing girl on the cover, in Chapter 6 Costa Rica, there are about 10 videos on the topic of food. I included the first three in my lesson plan; feel free to watch more if you desire.

As you complete your Spanish Assignments, screenshot the pages and email them to me. I will put your grade in the grade book. Every good grade will improve your final grade.

Your final exam will be on Monday, May 9th. Attached is a PowerPoint with everything you need to master for the final exam. If you want extra practice with any of these standards, you can review past assignments, use your textbook or workbook, or use the websites like VOCES and Duolingo.  

For this unit, you will do the following:
1. Write a paragraph describing your family.
2. Read and answer questions about Graciela Hernández (from family packet).
3. Answer "¿En qué cuarto estamos?" in complete sentences (from family packet).
4. Study and be able to use all the phrases in the packet, including the Possessive and Demonstrative Adjectives.
5. Draw or bring a photo of your family and describe the members. You will receive an oral presentation grade for this, which you will present on Monday, April 25th.
6. Draw a picture of your home, including all the rooms, and write what you and your family does in each room. You can include this information in your oral presentation (#5 above) which you will present on Monday, April 25th.
7. For those who completed the project pretending your family was visiting another country (with the 6 slides), you could include this in your presentation.

Dear Class,
Today you will write about and illustrate what you did over the weekend and/or Spring Break. Be sure to use the following verbs: 

 fuí a (I went to), jugué (I played), miré (I watched), leí (I read), escuché a (Iistened to), pasé tiempo/pasé un rato con (I spent time with), bailé (I danced), monté (I rode), hice (I did), comí (I ate), tomé/bebí (I drank), limpié (I cleaned), dormí (I slept), dibujé (I drew), escribí (I wrote).  Use any other verbs you can think of (in the past tense).  You have 25 minutes to write and draw, then 20 minutes to share in groups.

Begin to write your autobiography in Spanish. You will have fun adding to it as you continue acquiring Spanish. To begin, tell who you are (Soy...) and where you are from (Soy de...). Indicate your nationality (Soy estadounidense) and tell where you are a student. Also, give a brief description of yourself. What do you look like? How would you describe your personality? This project is due after Spring Break, April 15th, and we will share these in small groups.

In case of my absence, work on the following:
1) Autobiographies (due April 11th)
2) BIG Activity packets (due March 17th)
3) Spanish work book, any pages you need extra practice with
4) Textbook, any chapters you need extra practice with
5) Any missing assignments, including morpheme crossword puzzles
6) Internet including Voces, Senor Wooly, Flangoo, and Duolingo (only after all other assignments are complete).
7) Read a Spanish book, preferably the one you started before Spring Break.
8) Your new assignment this week is on the family, which is due Friday, April 15th. Please put these packets in my inbox on my desk.

1) Log into Voces (vocesu44471) and your User ID is your 5-digit PIN #. Go to Ch. 9 Venezuela and watch the videos "E to IE stem-changing verbs" and "O to UE stem-changing verbs."  Take the quizzes afterwards. (If the videos do not work then do activities 11 & 12 instead).
2) Do Duolingo for at least 10 minutes. You should be working on Duolingo at least 5-10 minutes four nights a week.
3) Watch a Senor Wooly video and complete 2 nuggets. You should watch at least one Senor Wooly song and complete 2 nuggets each week.
4) When you are done, you may do any Spanish activities of your choice - maybe make up any missing work?

Tomorrow, after we read a chapter and complete the activities afterwards, you may bring bring a snack or money for the snack machine.


The BIG packet is due on March 17th - the one I gave you to work on while I was absent two days. Some of you still have not turned in the "Everything You Need to Know in Spanish" packets that were due before Christmas. 


There IS still time to bring your grade up before the end of the year so that you have a good grade going into high school. Some of you are going to have to decide whether making a good grade is more important than talking, making noises, playing around, and not participating. If you have questions about your grades or want to talk to me about them, please raise your hand and I will call you up to see me.

1) We read Chs. 1-4. You need to read Ch. 5 at home this weekend.

3. Watch a Señor Wooly video and do two nuggets.

One of my BIGGEST secrets in learning a new language is knowing what cognates are and identifying them. A cognate is a word that is similar in English and Spanish. Did you know that there are over 20,000 English/Spanish cognates?! That means that you may already know 20,000 words in Spanish!! Attached are my lesson materials on cognates.

For anyone who is still missing assignments, today will be the LAST day you can make up any past due assignments. You need to check Infinite Campus to see your missing assignments. Email me and tell me what you accomplished today, and I will remove the zero and replace it with your earned grade. Remember, from now going forward, I will no longer accept assignments more than three (3) days late without a parent or doctor note.  


As the year progresses, it will be harder and harder to bring up your grade, so now is the time. A good strategy is to complete tests first, then quizzes, then class work, then homework - as they are weighted from greatest to least. Let me know if you have any questions.

Watch the video and then write for ten minutes in Spanish on the story. Count the number of words written. The goal is to write 100 words in ten minutes. Hand in your timed writing on Tuesday, October 12th.

That is why I am so adamant about you participating in class, completing all your assignments, having respectful behavior, and allowing all the students to be able to acquire as much Spanish as possible.

Make an alphabet poster or Google Slides. There are 29 letters in the Spanish alphabet. On each square of your poster (fold a piece of paper 4 or 5 times, which will give you 16 squares front and back - or 32 squares). Then write a Spanish word that represents you and what you like. Lastly, draw a picture of the word/thing/activity that you like. When we come back from being quarantined, we will have conversations using yoru poster/Google Slides. If you have any questions, contact me. Remember I will be at my daughter's wedding until Tuesday, September 7th. Chao!

You will choose a date in each season, for example, Dec. 25th. Then you will write the date in Spanish - 25 de diciembre. Then you will write a phrase describing the weather - Hace frío. I hope you and your families are all well. Hang in there; we will get through this - together. Know that your health and that of your family is most important. After that, then we can acquire some Spanish! And here is how we will do that:

1) I will have a lesson posted on my Webpage and here in Google Class each day. Most of my lessons will be on the VOCES website, so make sure you can log on. The Class ID is: vocesu44471, and the User ID is your 5-digit PIN number. 
2) Do do at least 5 minutes (more is better!) of DuoLingo every week day. You can do more days to keep your performance streak going:)
3) Listen to Senor Wooly songs and do the nuggets afterwards to check your comprehension. Go to Senor Wooly and log in. Each class period has a different password. Please see a previous Google message below for your class password.
4) Read a Flangoo.com book. Most of you were given a slip of paper with the Passcode. I will email you individually if you have not received one. Go to: https://flangoo.com/.

FOR TODAY! You are going to make an alphabet poster! Get the biggest piece of paper you can find! Bust out those markers, crayons, and/or colored pencils. Fold the paper 5 times, which  makes 32 squares. Since there are 29 letters in the Spanish alphabet, you will have 3 extra squares. Now, use your imagination to create a personal alphabet poster with words that YOU love and will use in Spanish. For example, if you're into sports, videogames, dance, music, TV, computers, or outdoors, your poster will show that. I've included some examples attached, but remember to make this personal. You can and should use a dictionary, translation app, or any resources I have provided you. You will use this poster to talk about yourself in Spanish. This project will probably take you the rest of this week to complete. Please take a picture of and send it to me when you are finished (Tuesday, September 7th at the latest).
