You are a Poet. Now, write four quatrains (stanzas) for a total of 16 rhyming lines. It can be about anything, but it does need to have a rhyme scheme (a,b,c,b  or a,b,a,b), and it should have an example of alliteration or assonance and must be at least 80 words. See Rubric slide

Music censorship is a hot topic. Some believe music should be censored, while other believe it is unconstitutional. Weigh the claims of both sides, and then write an argumentative essay in your own words explaining whether you believe music should be censored or not and why. 
Be sure to use evidence from BOTH texts in your argumentative essay. Write your essay on the Google Document provided below.

Copy your argument essay from the Conclusion Paragraph Practice document and paste it into this attached document. Proofread it, and then add transition words and phrases as needed.

Copy your Intro and Body Paragraphs from yesterday; paste them here. Then add a conclusion paragraph to complete your argument writing.

Copy your revised introduction Paragraph and the old Body Paragraphs from the Pre-On Demand writing you did at the beginning of this unit. (You wrote about Rules).


Use what you now know, rewrite and revise the Body Paragraphs (at least two).

Using what you know now, revise this paragraph into the perfect Intro Paragraph. 


Make sure you have a hook, a claim, and a counterclaim.

For extra credit (a Project grade), complete the worksheet below. Answer the questions using the RACER strategy. That means you need to restate the question into your answer. The deadline for this X-Credit opportunity is COB Friday afternoon.

If you are home today and looking for something to do, you are in luck. Go to Achieve 3000 (Teen Biz) and do the article: Should the Voting Age by Lowered? Then fill out the short form attached...done. It's that easy.

You will have 45 minutes to complete this Pre-On Demand Position Paper. Use the rubric as your guide.

After reading your Twas poems before Christmas, I was profoundly perturbed and dismayed to find that way too many of you still use the lowercase letter "i" when referring to yourself. This exercise should help everyone break this horrible habit so that you do not embarrass yourselves in high school and beyond.

Write a 20 line rhyming poem that begins with the familiar phrase "Twas the ____"

If you have finished writing the Article / Letter to Vet, you can earn extra credit by completing Question # 10 on the Paired Passages assignment. 


Your assignment: Imagine that you were able to see orcas hunting seals n land or on an ice floe. In a letter to a friend, describe what you saw, as well as provide some information about orcas. Remember to include the parts of a letter, such as the date, a greeting, and a closing.

You have two options: Write a news-type article about a Veteran you have interviewed (3 paragraphs). 


Or...Write a letter to a Veteran using the exemplar as your guide (3 paragraphs). Paragraph #1--Write about yourself

Once you have completed the news report "Developing Compassion", I want you to rewrite your article using a different perspective / angle (Developing Compassion Part II). Perhaps you were the lonely kid, or the event involves a teacher, counselor, or even a bully that created the problem. Yes, this means you have to completely rewrite the article

Write a news report (3rd person POV), about a student you noticed sitting alone in the cafeteria or gym. Provide a setting, action, dialogue to evoke compassion. Use the Exemplar and the Checklist to assist you in writing.

It's Halloween week, time to get scared. Write a scary story and be prepared to present it to the class on Friday. There will be a contest to see who wins the cash prize for the best tale. 
Minimum of 350 words. 


You will be provided a folder as a book cover for your story. The best ones will get posted on the bulletin board. They must contain the title of your story, a blurb about the story, an illustration (drawing), and, of course, your name.

As promised, here is your opportunity to write an article using the information you observed in our trip around the school. Use the exemplars to make sure you are including the 5 Ws, a Grace Note, and  a Delightful Jolt.

Rewrite and Revise the article you started yesterday about Mrs. Andrews. Make sure you use first-person POV and you provide all the details in the video. You can use the Exemplar as your guide.

I realize that we have not studied journalism yet, however, we need to see what you already know about this genre. 


Pick a topic and write from the perspective of a journalist. (Remember that Journalists typically use 3rd person POV)

Use the exemplar to assist you in writing your memoir. 
It should be 350 words
Have at least one picture that symbolizes the event
Sum up the event in a six-word sentence (not just six random words)

Use your draft to assist you in writing and publishing this week's memoir. You should be writing about a traumatic event or time in your life. Use the exemplar to guide you.
